  3.         Hyplus uses angle brackets and ASCII files for these reasons:

  5. Easy .......... Requires only a word processor <link13> to create hypertext
  6.                 knowledge systems -- and jumps are traceable in printed files.
  7.  
  8. Compatible .... Most classes of software easily retrieve and use information
  9.                 contained in a Hyplus system.   <link02>

  11. Universality .. With requirements, policies, procedures, descriptions,
  12.                 specifications, laws, or diagnostics, textual representations
  13.                 of ideas occur 10,000 times more frequently than do graphical
  14.                 representations.  Hyplus is designed for showing the
  15.                 organization of textual knowledge.

  17. Speed ......... In construction speed, manual techniques can achieve rates
  18.                 of 200 files and 500 links per day compared to the maximum
  19.                 of five screens per day with graphical hypertext.  With
  20.                 automatic abstracting software, construction rates are
  21.                 magnitudes higher.  For example, I once built 50,000 hypertext
  22.                 links in three hours (converting a database to hypertext).
